Initiative Context & Public Service Development

In line with ongoing efforts to upgrade public service standards and enhance the quality of transit facilities provided to citizens and travelers, Orient for Human Relief and Development, and as part of the "Wafaa for Idlib" Campaign—provided specialized logistical support to the General Authority for Border Crossings and Syrian Customs by supplying a fleet of modern passenger minibuses dedicated to intra-terminal transportation within border crossing perimeters.

This initiative reflects Orient's firm commitment to civic responsibility and sustainable support for vital public facilities. By delivering practical logistical solutions, the project ensures dignity, comfort, and safety for travelers while mitigating the physical strain of walking long distances with luggage across expansive terminal grounds under diverse weather conditions.

Targeted Border Crossings & Operational Scope

The deployed minibus fleet was allocated to serve two of the country's most strategic international transit arteries handling heavy daily movement:

Bab Al-Hawa Border Crossing

Located on the Syrian–Turkish border in northern Idlib, serving as the primary commercial and humanitarian transit corridor. The minibuses facilitate smooth, dignified shuttle transit for travelers, delegations, students, and voluntary returnees between border gates and administrative processing halls.

Nassib Border Crossing

Situated on the Syrian–Jordanian border in the south, forming the key overland gateway for passengers and commercial transit. The vehicles provide reliable, climate-controlled internal mobility connecting arrivals, departures, and customs inspection zones.

Phased Distribution & Technical Specifications

Execution was carried out through an engineered delivery plan encompassing 12 modern minibuses delivered across two consecutive batches of 6 vehicles each, fully equipped and deployed for immediate 24/7 field service:

  • Dedicated Transit for Travelers and Voluntary Returnees:Securing dignified, safe transport for travelers and Syrian citizens voluntarily returning from neighboring countries, easing internal transfers with heavy baggage without hardship.
  • Initial Phase of a Multi-Stage Support Strategy:This initiative marks the first phase of a broader phased support strategy, to be followed by subsequent deliveries for the General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs or other public entities in accordance with evolving operational priorities.
  • Advanced Technical Outfitting & Climate Control:Vehicles feature modern air-conditioning, ergonomic seating, and comprehensive safety systems designed for round-the-clock continuous duty across all seasons.
  • Alleviating Bottlenecks & Shortening Processing Times:Streamlining passenger flow within terminal grounds, mitigating pedestrian congestion, and accelerating the turnaround of customs and immigration procedures.
  • Reinforcing Institutional Partnership:Structuring fruitful cooperation that reflects an exemplary partnership between the humanitarian development sector and public service institutions.

Field Impact & Sustainable Outcomes

The commissioning of the minibus fleet brought an immediate, tangible improvement to daily operations across Bab Al-Hawa and Nassib crossings. The initiative was warmly commended by travelers and returning families for providing a dignified, welcoming transit experience that honors community dignity and addresses real-world logistical needs, reinforcing the ongoing mission of Orient to support Syrian citizens.

"Upgrading border crossings and providing dignified transit facilities is essential to advancing recovery and welcoming citizens returning to their homeland."
