Paving Selected Roads in Taftanaz
Rehabilitation and asphalt paving of 22,000 m² of vital, high-traffic roads in Taftanaz across Phase 1, encompassing grading, compaction, and new asphalt laying — with over 60% completed as works advance toward upcoming phases.
Initiative Context & "Taftanaz We Will Rebuild It" Campaign
As part of the "Taftanaz We Will Rebuild It" Campaign and in close cooperation and coordination with the "Idlib Governorate", Orient for Human Relief and Developmentlaunched a comprehensive project to rehabilitate and asphalt-pave a designated network of vital roads across Taftanaz town, spearheading early recovery and infrastructure restoration.
The project aims to restore normal traffic flow, enhance community access to essential public facilities, healthcare centers, and local markets, while reducing vehicular maintenance burdens and revitalizing commercial and service activities across the town and its surrounding agricultural basin.
Local Coordination & Road Selection Criteria
Target road sections were designated through careful technical surveys and direct coordination with the Taftanaz Local Council, prioritizing the most heavily used corridors that bear continuous daily traffic and connect residential neighborhoods with healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and civic amenities to maximize community impact.
Total Phase 1 Coverage
Phase 1 encompasses the paving and structural rehabilitation of over 22,000 m² of the town's most critical and high-traffic road network.
Local Council Partnership
Strategic routes prioritized in direct coordination with the local council to serve hospitals, schools, and central commercial hubs.
Phase 1 Works & Technical Interventions
Field engineering teams are executing works according to rigorous quality standards to ensure pavement stability, resilience, and longevity against heavy axle loads and weathering:
- Grading, Scarification & Mechanical Compaction:Removing damaged road sections and executing engineered leveling and high-density mechanical compaction to ensure a rock-solid foundation.
- Sub-Base Preparation & Bituminous Prime Coat:Spreading certified aggregate sub-base layers and spraying liquid bitumen (MC prime coat) to achieve optimal bonding with the incoming asphalt layer.
- Laying New Hot-Mix Asphalt Layers:Spreading and rolling high-grade hot asphalt concrete at engineered thicknesses across designated routes, providing smooth, safe surfaces for vehicles and pedestrians.
- Stormwater Drainage & Road Shoulder Dressing:Aligning cross-slopes to facilitate natural stormwater runoff, preventing water ponding, and dressing road shoulders to protect pavement edges.
- Over 60% Execution & Ongoing Advancement:More than 60% of Phase 1 works have been successfully completed, with field teams actively progressing to finalize remaining segments and prepare for upcoming phases.
Sustainable Community & Economic Impact
This initiative represents a pivotal milestone under the "Taftanaz We Will Rebuild It" campaign, revitalizing everyday life, facilitating transit for emergency and civic services, and fostering economic recovery while affirming the indispensable role of modern infrastructure in community resilience.
"Road rehabilitation is not merely about laying asphalt; it is about reconnecting people to services and markets, and driving forward recovery and resilience in Taftanaz."
